CONCEALED WARMTH · UK HOMES & COMMERCIAL SPACES
Infrared ceiling heating brings radiant warmth into a room while keeping walls clear. Energy Carbon offers systems that can be integrated into suitable ceiling constructions, with room controls and a layout designed around your building.
Planning a renovation, new home or commercial fit-out? Start with the room’s heat loss, ceiling construction and daily use. We can discuss the information needed for a tailored proposal.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT CONSTRUCTION
Infrared ceiling heating options
Ceiling heating can be concealed within the building fabric or installed as a visible panel. The best choice depends on the finish you want, the work already planned and access for installation.
Behind plasterboard
Energy Carbon’s DRYTEC system is designed for suitable drylining applications. Discuss joist layout, ceiling build-up and available heated area before the ceiling is closed.
Integrated with plaster
Fleece heating is designed for integration into suitable plaster finishes. Agree the substrate, finish and installation sequence with the project team.
Suspended ceilings
SmartFlex is an option for compatible suspended-ceiling applications. Offices, shops and other workplaces need a layout that reflects occupied areas and the building’s heat demand.
See our infrared heating products for the range, and confirm the current technical specification for your chosen system before ordering.
COMFORT WITHOUT WALL RADIATORS
How does heating from the ceiling work?
A warm ceiling surface transfers heat by radiation to people and other surfaces in the room. Warm air rises, but radiant heat is not limited to moving upwards. That is why a correctly designed ceiling system can contribute to comfort below it.
The amount and position of heated surface matter. A distributed installation offers a different radiant pattern from a small, concentrated heater. Room geometry, ceiling height, furniture and insulation all influence the result; no layout guarantees identical comfort in every position.

FROM FLOOR PLAN TO FINISHED ROOM
Design your ceiling heating around the building
- Assess each room. Provide dimensions, ceiling heights, insulation details, glazing and the temperatures you want to maintain. A room-by-room heat-loss assessment establishes the design requirement.
- Plan the ceiling layout. Account for lights, access hatches, beams and other services. Confirm available heated area and the approved ceiling build-up.
- Agree electrical and control requirements. Specify compatible power supplies, sensors and room thermostats, with access for inspection and maintenance. A qualified electrician should design and complete the relevant electrical work.
- Coordinate installation and finishes. Follow the selected product’s instructions, record the installed layout and provide the information needed for future work on the ceiling.
- Commission the system. Check controls, explain schedules and review comfort after occupation. Keep installation records and operating instructions together.
Is it suitable for an existing property?
It may be particularly practical when ceilings are already being refurbished. For a finished room, compare the disruption of concealed installation with surface-mounted alternatives. Listed buildings and sensitive interiors may need additional approvals and specialist advice.

MAKE AN INFORMED COMPARISON
Infrared ceiling heating running costs
Running costs depend on electricity consumed and the tariff paid. Heat loss, outdoor conditions, room temperatures, occupancy and control settings determine how much heating is required. Ceiling placement or a low operating voltage does not establish a fixed saving.
Room-by-room controls can help match heating to the spaces you use. Our winter zoning guide explains practical schedules. Our running-cost guide includes worked examples.
Compare the complete system, including installation, controls and hot water where relevant. A heat pump can supply the same useful heat with less electricity than direct electric heating. The right overall choice depends on your property and requirements.
BEFORE YOU SPECIFY
Infrared ceiling heating FAQs
Will I see the heating system?
Concealed systems are integrated into an approved ceiling construction. Surface-mounted panels remain visible. Confirm the finished appearance and service access as part of the design.
Can every room have its own thermostat?
Separate room control can be included with compatible equipment and a suitable electrical design. Agree the number of zones, sensor positions and controls before installation.
Can ceiling heating provide hot water?
No. It provides space heating. If replacing a boiler or another combined system, plan a separate domestic hot-water solution and include it in the cost comparison.
What do I need for a quotation?
Send floor plans, ceiling heights, construction and insulation details, the project location and your intended room use. Include photographs of existing ceilings and your proposed refurbishment schedule where available.
